Overview
The primary function of the Casework Section
is to monitor offenders on supervised probation or an Informal Adjustment Agreement to
ensure that the conditions are being fulfilled. Probation is a legal status or
sentence which permits offenders to remain with their families under the supervision of a
probation officer.
The Casework Section consists of probation
officers who offer intensive counseling services to those referred to the Court.
Probation Officers are concerned with modifying unlawful and maladaptive behavior, conduct
interviews, compile social summaries, make recommendations, and supervise juveniles.
Probation Officers counsel youths individually and in groups , utilizing appropriate
community and placement resources, when possible.
Probation Officers receive on-the-job
training, develop crisis intervention skills, and are encouraged to attend professional
conferences or workshops. The Casework Section serves as field-work placement for
graduate students from the School of Social Welfare at LSU and undergraduate students from
Southern University.
