|LOCATION OF WORK|
|Under the general direction of the Planning Director and Assistant Planning Director, employee performs responsible project management. Duties involve working in partnership with the public and private sector, developing strategies, reviewing land development applications including, but not limited to, the Planned Unit, Small Planned Unit and Traditional Neighborhood Developments regulations and formulating policies and procedures to implement projects. Work also involves the use of independent judgment and is reviewed through conferences for desired results. The Planning Project Coordinator is distinguished from Planner IV by a greater degree of authority and supervision exercised. Employees of this classification oversee Planner IVs with assigned staff responsible for research, report writing, presentations and related activities. Performs other work as requested.|
|ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS|
|Coordinates special planning and land use for the Planning Commission's projects, work programs and staff assignments; reviews staff work product.
Fosters business partnerships with neighborhood, civic and professional development organizations that are conducive to the department's mission.
Researches and identifies improvement opportunities for the Unified Development Code.
Provides organization, administrative expertise and support to the advisory committees to the Planning Commission; performs related duties as assigned.
Develops and coordinates, in collaboration with other departments, groups and agencies, techniques to streamline the application process; develops criteria for successful review of land development applications.
Develops and coordinates communications and public relations for the department, including Public Information and the Planning Commission's education workshops and professional staff training.
Creates databases to track land development applications with other departments and agencies to expedite the land development application approval process.|
|KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES|
|Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of urban planning.
Knowledge of the techniques of planning research and of the municipal, state and federal agencies and procedures involved in urban planning.
Knowledge of subdivision and zoning regulations, procedures and practices.
Knowledge of economics, municipal finances, sociology, historic preservation, and environmental protection as they apply to urban planning.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of the Geographic Information System (GIS) program.
Knowledge of financial management of federal and state grants.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of technical report writing.
Ability to organize, supervise, and perform technical research on subdivision and zoning related issues.
Ability to utilize a computer to interpret and analyze technical and statistical information.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, officials, other
agencies, and the general public.
Ability to prepare technical, oral and written reports clearly and in an interesting manner to various groups and the general public.
Ability to supervise and motivate personnel.
Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.|
|EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE|
|Master's degree in planning or a related field, and three years professional level planning experience, including two years supervisory experience.|
|Any equivalent combination of education and experience.|
