Facility Maintenance Supervisor

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of a departmental supervisor, performs supervisory, technical engineering work in the operation, maintenance and construction of the City-Parish physical plant. Work involves the supervision of subordinate supervisors; meeting with contractors and vendors. Work also involves the use of independent judgment; is assigned orally and reviewed through personal conferences and for results obtained. Performs other work as requested.
 
ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates the work of subordinate supervisors in the areas of operations, maintenance, and construction. Administers approved budget; authorizes requisitions and payments; purchases parts and equipment; repairs equipment. Responds to inquiries and complaints whether in person, by telephone or written correspondence; resolves problems; troubleshoots. Assures compliance with safety procedures. Meets with other agencies, sales people, company representatives, and contractors.
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the basic and advanced principles, practices, and techniques of construction management. Knowledge of the principles, practices, and policies of facility maintenance. Knowledge of modern supervisory methods and techniques. Knowledge of occupational safety and health standards. Knowledge of contract provisions. Skill in the safe operation of modern repair and maintenance equipment. Skill in the operation of HVAC related equipment. Skill in the safe operation of a light motor vehicle. Ability to read and interpret contracts. Ability to verify contract compliance. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to plan, direct, and evaluate the work of others. Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, or a closely related field, supplemented by four years progressively responsible project management work experience with three years supervisory experience.
 
SUBSTITUTIONS
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES
Position(s) of this classification may require a valid Louisiana driver's license. If license is required, must maintain throughout employment in this position.
