|Under the direction of an employee of a higher classification, performs technical work inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on electronic and pneumatic control systems for the City-Parish's sewage pumping and treatment facilities. Assignments are given orally or in writing. An employee of this class may be on twenty-four-hour call. Performs other work as requested.|
|ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS|
|Inspects, tests, troubleshoots, and repairs electronic and pneumatic control systems, including flow meters, for sewage pumping and treatment facilities.
Reviews blueprints and works with contractors on control system upgrades; reads and interprets technical repair manuals, operating guides, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
Learns and applies various programming languages necessary for utilizing the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains computerized process alarm systems.
Tests instruments and control panel wiring that have been installed, repaired, or replaced to ensure conformance to standard specifications.
Calibrates instruments according to established standards.
Utilizes test equipment such as multimeters, digital voltmeters, digital calibrators, digital logic probes, oscilloscopes, frequency measuring meters, and other pertinent electrical and electronic measuring devices.
Works with Plant Electricians on maintenance and repair activities.
Assists supervisor with maintaining records, parts inventory, and equipment information.
|KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES|
|Knowledge of the operation of sewage pumping and treatment facilities.
Knowledge of the electrical, electronic, mechanical, and pneumatic principles governing the functioning of control systems and instruments.
Knowledge of the methods, tools, and equipment used to test, maintain, and repair control systems and instruments in accordance with prescribed standards.
Knowledge of principles and practices of SCADA, specifically as applied to preventative and corrective maintenance, including electrical, electronic, pneumatic, microprocessor, and other instrumentation components at sewage pumping and treatment facilities.
Knowledge of PLCs, indicators, and other sensing equipment.
Knowledge of tagging conventions, data logging and reporting, Boolean logic, and symbol conventions.
Knowledge of high and low voltage equipment and all types of flow meters, recorders, and transmitters.
Knowledge of electronic instrumentation for chemical monitoring system repairs.
Knowledge of the interrelation of the various components which make up the control system in the area of work assignment.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of sewage pumping and treatment facilities and the instrumentation trade.
Skill in the use of tools and precision instruments necessary to perform assigned tasks.
Ability to read and understand ladder logic utilized for PLCs.
Ability to understand and interpret control schematics, diagrams, electrical schematics, blueprints, piping layouts, and single line drawings used in testing and maintaining control systems and instruments in accordance with prescribed standards.
Ability to carry out scheduled programs of inspection and maintenance and to keep systematic records of work performed on control systems and instruments.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Ability to climb and descend ladders and stairs.
Ability to participate in a standby schedule.
Ability to work after scheduled hours and during emergency situations.
Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.
|EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE|
|High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency, supplemented by completion of vocational school in the field of electrical, electronic, pneumatic, or mechanical control instruments and systems, and four years of experience as an instrument technician, including one year of experience in an industrial environment.|
|Any equivalent combination of education and experience.|
|Must have a valid Louisiana driver's license at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment in this classification.|
