|Professional Engineer II|

|Engineer allowance up to $10,000 annually (DOE)|
|Under general direction of an employee of a higher classification, performs responsible professional engineering work as a licensed professional engineer in technical field and office work within a major organizational section or division for departments performing public works functions. Work involves advanced level planning, design, construction and/or maintenance of City-Parish facilities. Employees may function as a multi project engineer and be assigned the supervision of a staff. Work is reviewed for results obtained and through reports. Performs other work as requested.|
|ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS|
|Plans and supervises projects as assigned; coordinates the activities of one or more areas.
Plans, organizes, assigns and supervises the design and preparation of engineering plans, functions and activities including, but not limited to: street improvements, intersections (channelization and turning lanes), railroad crossings, bridges and drainage, sanitary sewer, and other related public works projects.
Analyzes problems related to the pretreatment of wastewater; approves pretreatment plant design; conducts compliance inspections of pretreatment facilities; reviews state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
Determines the designs and correct placement of all traffic control devices to include signs, signals and road markings; analyzes accident data and devises corrective measures.
Reviews and checks plans prepared by consulting engineer and others; prepares cost and material estimates and reports.
Prepares and checks bid proposals; prepares proposals for contracts; supervises construction audits and final payments to contractors.
Performs technical engineering reviews of construction jobs in progress and checks for adequacy of supervision given by contractors and architects, material used, and proper installation and operation of equipment.
Conducts site investigations and prepares reports covering the results of inspections and recommendations for corrective measures.
Consults with construction groups in order to prepare special requirements necessary for the proper functioning of the facilities.
Trains employees how to operate PC and software.
Maintains supplies and keeps equipment up to date.|
|KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES|
|Knowledge of the principles and practices of a recognized branch of professional engineering.
Knowledge of modern methods and techniques used in the design and construction of a wide variety of public works projects.
Knowledge of the modern developments, current literature and sources of information regarding professional engineering.
Knowledge of applicable laws and regulatory codes relevant to design and construction of public works projects.
Skill in the application of a variety of computers, design/drafting software, CADD (Computer Aided Design Drafting) and surveying practices, and in the conduct of a wide variety of complex engineering research projects.
Ability to accurately perform highly complex engineering computations and to design and supervise the construction of a wide variety of complex public and private facilities, and to make comprehensive recommendations concerning problems encountered.
Ability to secure adherence with construction plans, specifications and codes tactfully and effectively.
Ability to plan, schedule and review the work of a moderately large group of professional and sub-professional assistants in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, subordinates, engineers, architects, contractors and the public.
Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.|
|EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE|
|Bachelor's degree in one of the recognized branches of engineering from the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board and four years of experience in professional engineering. |
|Any equivalent combination of education and experience as recognized by the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board .|
|Possession of a license to practice professional engineering as issued by the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board .
Position(s) of this classification may require a valid Louisiana driver's license. If license is required, must be maintained throughout employment in this position.|
