Frequently Asked Questions

Are Criminal Record Checks part of the application process?

Yes, Criminal Record Checks will be run on all applicants not currently employed with the City-Parish Government, as well as those employees with less then six months of service. These record checks will be run prior to candidates being offered employment and may include a check of the drivers history.

Can you apply for any job at any time?

No. A position must be open for application in order to apply. However, Classified City-Parish employees can apply for any position at any time.

All classified City-Parish positions have minimum qualifications which must be met by all applicants interested in employment. Please review the job posting for the position you are interested in. If you do not have the specific minimum requirements, and wish to discuss the equivalent combination of training and experience, please contact the Recruitment staff at 389-3132.

Do I have to complete an application to apply for a job?

Yes, resumés are not accepted in lieu of completed applications. City-Parish applicants are expected to provide accurate and complete application information regarding employment, education, criminal history, etc. Any misrepresentation of information will disqualify applicants from employment consideration and subject current employees to dismissal.

Are original education, certification and similar documents required when I apply for a job?

No, original documents are not required. Copies of education, certification and similar documents can be submitted when you apply for a job.

How do I apply for a job?

The application process depends upon the position in which you are applying. If a position is open as a current vacancy, then the application must be submitted before the deadline date and time. All applications with a Thursday deadline must be received in the Human Resources Department no later than 5:00 p.m., Thursday. If a position is open continuously for application, then there is no deadline in applying. If a written examination is required, then the application must be submitted when you come in for testing. What are your testing days?

Written and skills examinations are offered on a walk-in basis.  No appointment is needed. You can get a testing schedule from the Recruitment & Examination Division or from our Walk-In Test Schedule webpage.

When will I receive my test and/or application results?

Examination and/or application results are mailed to the applicant usually within 3 weeks of application.
