ABOUT OUR EXPLORING PROGRAM!

Exploring is a division of the “Learning for Life” program sponsored by BSA for young adults between the ages of 15 and 18 enrolled in school. The program is developed by local community organizations such as businesses, industries, professions, churches and civic groups to match the interests of young adults with the program resources of the host organization.

The East Baton Rouge City-Parish Department of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is sponsoring an Explorer Post for youth interested in pre-hospital emergency medical care.

A well-rounded Post Program not only provides career information and experiences, but also includes five other experience areas. These include mental and physical fitness, social, citizenship, service and outdoor activities.

The goals and purposes of the Emergency Medical Services Post are two fold. One is to assist high school-aged youth in defining their present and future roles as individuals within their society. The post will also provide an opportunity for them to gain exposure to certain aspects of emergency pre-hospital medical care and other related fields prior to entering their choice of secondary education.

These goals will be achieved through an extensive and varied program. This includes a Paramedic Unit Observation Program available to interested EMS Explorers upon meeting the requirements for admission.

EMS attending to an injury and getting victim to safety!

Taking time to relax and enjoying outdoor dining.
