Councilman Darrell Ourso

Darrell Ourso (Republican) was elected to finish out the remainder of an un-expired term for the Metropolitan Council representing District 9 in 1999. He was then re-elected without opposition to a full term (2001-2004), and reelected to a second full-term (2005-2008) which he is now serving.

A native of Donaldsonville, Darrell graduated from Ascension Catholic High School in 1982. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in History from LSU and maintains a Louisiana Life & Health Insurance license, NASD Series 7 and Series 66 license. He is a Financial Consultant with AXA Advisors / AXA Equitable Life Insurance.

He is married to the former Angele Balencie of New Orleans, and they have two children, Amanda and Daniel. They have been residents of Southeast Baton Rouge since 1988. The Oursos are active members of Most Blessed Sacrament Church, where Darrell is a Lector, member of the Men’s Club and Knights of Columbus Council #10455. He served as Men’s Club President in 1997 and Secretary in 1996.

Active in the community, Darrell is a member of the Jones Creek Area Business Association (www.jcaba.org), NAIFA-BR Chapter, LSU Alumni Association, Catholic High Men's Club and Ascension Catholic High Alumni Association. He is a 2002 graduate of The Chamber's Leadership Greater Baton Rouge.

As a member of a large Louisiana family, Darrell’s ancestor, Martin de Usos fought with General Bernardo de Galvez in the Manchac Expedition, one of a select few battles fought outside of the 13 original colonies, that provided for American Independence. He is proud to be a member of the General Philemon Thomas Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. He is also a member of the Canary Islanders Heritage Society of Louisiana, a group that supports Spanish ancestry in Louisiana, specifically, the Los Islenos culture.
