Councilwoman Martha Jane Tassin, a Republican, was elected in October 2001 to represent District 6 on the Metropolitan Council of EBRP, after serving as an interim replacement for her deceased husband Mike Tassin since February 2001. She received her B.S. in Education from Louisiana State University and served 21 years as a kindergarten teacher in the East Baton Rouge Parish Public School System before retiring in January of 2001. She taught at Progress Elementary for seven years and at La Belle Aire Elementary for 14 years.

Mrs. Tassin has been an active member in many education associations since 1981. She is a member of the East Baton Rouge Parish Association of Educators, the Louisiana Association of Educators, the National Educator’s Association and the EBR Parish Republican Executive Committee.  Mrs. Tassin is also very active in the community through the Broadmoor Civic Association.

She is the widow of the late M.A. “Mike” Tassin, and has one son Bradley a student at LSU. She is a member of the St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church.
