Dr. Pat Culbertson, a retired LSU Professor of Economics, was first elected in 1996 to represent District 3 on the Metro Council. He was re-elected in 2000 and again in 2004.
Dr. Culbertson and his family have made Baton Rouge their home since 1974. His wife, Margaret, is a retired Social Worker with an M.S. from LSU. A daughter, Ashley Atchison, practices law and lives in Covington, Louisiana while Son
Geoff currently clerks for a Federal Judge in Beaumont, Texas.
Pat Culbertson first came to Baton Rouge as an LSU student in 1960. He completed his B.S. and M.S. degrees in 1965 and received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Texas. His career as an LSU Professor covered nearly 30 years
and he has taught literally thousands of students in that time. He was twice elected President of the LSU Faculty Senate and chaired the LSU Athletic Council from 1994 until his retirement. He is the recipient of numerous teaching
awards.
Pat’s interest in the Metro Council was sparked by his service as President of his neighborhood Property Owners Association. In that position he saw first-hand how crucial are the issues which come before the Planning Commission and the
Metro Council. A strong believer in traditional family values, Pat ran for office on a platform that promised to “protect our property values.” In his 8 years on the Metro Council, he has sought consistently to balance homeowner
interests with the phenomenal growth in our City-Parish.
Pat and his family are active stake-holders in the Baton Rouge community. As a former member of the Vestry of St. James Episcopal Church and as a Past President of the Board of Episcopal High School, Pat has worked tirelessly to make
Baton Rouge a better place for our children. He is a long-time Board member of the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center.
A MESSAGE FROM PAT CULBERTSON...
East Baton Rouge Parish continues to experience a period of strong economic growth. For this we are all very grateful. Growth, however, brings with it certain challenges and if we are to continue to enjoy the quality of life which makes
Baton Rouge so attractive, we must meet this challenges.
I am committed to working with the Mayor, the Metro Council and the Community to insure that Baton Rouge remains a place of which we can all be proud. Please help me in this job by contacting my office whenever any department of
City-Parish government can be of assistance. My Council Aide is Evelyn Traylor and we want to hear from you so that together we can continue to build a better Baton Rouge.
