ADOPTION POLICIES AND COSTS

ADOPTION POLICY

Office Hours for adoptions for the EBRP Animal Control & Rescue Center. The Animal Control & Rescue Center will also perform mid-month, Saturday remote adoptions, at select locations, using the mobile adoption trailer. The shelter is located at 2680 Progress Road on the Baton Rouge Metro-Airport property. All animals are adopted on a first come, first served basis.

Animals may not be held or reserved for anyone.

A legally binding adoption contract is required for all adoptions.

All animals adopted shall be sterilized (spayed or neutered) prior to pick-up by the new adopter. The animal is generally ready for pick-up on the next working day. We practice early spaying or neutering. Puppy and kittens as early as 8 weeks of ages are spayed or neutered.

Our Veterinarian gives all adopted animals a health examination.  They are checked for heartworms and parasites and are given their initial vaccinations and de-worming.

Adopters have twenty-one days from the date of adoption to take their new animal to a private Veterinarian of their choice.  This is mandatory; in order for your animal to receive it’s rabies vaccination and any other series of vaccinations that may be necessary.

We have a fourteen (14) day health guarantee. If your pet becomes ill during these 14 days, you may opt to have it treated by your private veterinarian or you may return it for a refund or a choice of another animal.

Adopters are required to provide proper food, water, shelter and veterinary care to their animals at all times.

Adopters are also required to obey the ordinance and laws pertaining to animals and are not allowed to let their animal run-at-large or create any type of public nuisance.

Adopted animals are required to wear a rabies license tag on a collar or harness at all times.

ADOPTION FEE FOR ANY ANIMAL IS $70 PER ANIMAL.

ADOPTION FEE IS A TERRIFIC BARGAIN

Included in the fee is your new pet's spay or neuter surgery, vaccinations against common contagious diseases, health screening and its initial preventive medication for heartworms. All this is done by our veterinarian here at the Animal Control & Rescue Center.

Because it is necessary to establish a relationship with a private veterinarian for your pet's continuing health care, we do not administer your pet's rabies vaccination here at the Center. Instead, you receive a pre-paid certificate redeemable for your pet's rabies shot, tag and license at the veterinarian of your choice. This is included in your adoption fee.

DISCLAIMER

The East Baton Rouge Parish Animal Control & Rescue Center has plenty of good animals for adoption. As animals get adopted, others take their place. Not all animals entering the shelter are suitable for adoption however.

The animals in these photos represent examples of those pets available. Breeds and individual animals change everyday–far too quickly to stay absolutely current. Please be patient and understand that a pet may be reclaimed or adopted, and may not be available before you arrive at the shelter. It might also have a change in temperament or become sick during its stay at the shelter, thus making it unavailable.
