OUR GOAL

To provide a public education, prevention and awareness campaign concerning the transmission of HIV/AIDS in East Baton Rouge Parish and surrounding areas.

To increase awareness of available HIV/AIDS testing and resources through Information coordination.

To research and acquire any additional funds available to provide HIV/AIDS testing and resources.

2006 HIV/AIDS, REGION 2

281 persons were newly diagnosed with HIV in Region 2,

5422 cumulative cases have been detected including 58 pediatric cases,

2194 cumulative deaths among persons with HIV/AIDS have occurred, including 14 pediatric deaths,

3533 persons are currently living with HIV/AIDS

2006 AIDS, REGION 2

204 persons were newly diagnosed with AIDS in Region 2,

3533 cumulative AIDS cases diagnosed including 20 pediatric cases,

1774 persons are currently living with AIDS.

The Baton Rouge metropolitan statistical area, East Baton Rouge, West Baton Rouge, Ascension and Livingston Parishes. These parishes are defined as Region 2, the Baton Rouge Region.

In the mid-1990s, AIDS was the leading cause of death among Americans between the ages of 25 and 44 with the average life expectancy of someone infected with AIDS was 18 months to 24 months.

Today, men or women diagnosed with the disease have essentially the same life expectancy as anyone else of the same age, sex and race. The development of new drugs has given those infected with HIV/AIDS a much improved chance of survival.
