|LOCATION OF WORK|
|Under the general direction of the Crime Statistics and Research Division Commander, performs highly responsible advanced level clerical and administrative support work in supervising the daily operation of the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) system for the Baton Rouge Police Department. Work involves supervising Crime Specialists in the analysis and coding of criminal reports according to Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Uniform Crime Reporting standards. Work is performed with considerable independence and is evaluated through reports and results obtained. Performs other work as requested.|
|ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS|
|Supervises the daily operation of the Uniform Crime Reporting system; monitors and reviews the performance of Crime Specialists to ensure data is compliant with predetermined rules and standards as set forth in the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Handbook.
Serves as office manager for the Crime Statistics and Research Division of the Baton Rouge Police Department; prepares the daily assignments for the division using advanced SQL programs and automated information systems to collect data.
Analyzes, categorizes and records data according to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) standards and practices of the Crime Statistics and Research Division.
Maintains record of UCR related decisions not covered in the standards manual; serves as a resource to Crime Specialist for UCR standards and past practices of the division.
Prepares monthly and quarterly reports to be submitted to the Chief of Police, as well as state and federal agencies; performs quality assurance checks of completed data.
Coordinates with the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement concerning the UCR Process; participates in crime research and analysis activities with other divisions within the department.
Serves as back up to the Crime Statistician in the essential functions of the division.
Maintains the record of work hours for the duty roster.

|Knowledge of division and departmental operations, functions, policies and procedures.
Knowledge of criminal procedures and law enforcement agencies and techniques.
Knowledge of business English, spelling and arithmetic.
Knowledge of terminology used in criminal reporting.
Skill in the use of modern office equipment such as the telephone, calculator, copier, personal computer and related peripherals.
Skill in the use of a computer for word processing and spreadsheet applications.
Ability to supervise subordinate staff; exercise initiative, independence and sound judgment in supervisory duties.
Ability to exercise sound judgment in analyzing and coding criminal reports; accurately prepare statistical reports.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, department or division director, other departments, divisions, agencies and the general public.
Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.
|EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE|
|High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency, supplemented by course work in business education, and three years of experience in responsible clerical positions involving analysis and coding of criminal activities, including one year of supervisory experience (supervision can include either employee or project supervision). |
