|Under the direction of a higher classification, performs advanced work in the operation of server hardware, software, and peripheral equipment utilized by various City-Parish departments. Work involves monitoring and maintenance of server hardware and software, running batch processes, and printing reports. Work also involves responsibility for training and instructing subordinate computer operators. An employee in this class may be required to work shift work and is subject to unusual working hours, as well as twenty-four hour call for situations needing immediate attention. Performs other work as requested.|
|ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS|
|Supervises a shift of subordinate computer operators in the operation of server hardware, software, and peripheral equipment.
Trains and instructs all subordinate computer operators in the operation of server hardware, software, and peripheral equipment.
Monitors server hardware, software, and peripheral equipment to ensure proper functionality; reviews all work for errors.
Performs backup of servers to tape or disk.
Runs all batch reports for City-Parish agencies; separates all printed work and attaches to respective job control.
Receives and tracks trouble calls involving server hardware and software; troubleshoots and attempts to correct advanced problems that develop; calls for assistance as necessary to correct the problem.
Performs daily maintenance and minor repairs on server hardware and peripheral equipment.
Catalogs, files, and stores backup tapes.
Documents system procedures for use by other personnel.
Shreds paper as needed.|

|Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of server hardware, software, and peripheral equipment.
Knowledge of personal computer hardware and software, including word-processing, spreadsheet, database applications, and email.
Ability to perform advanced operations on server hardware, software, and peripheral equipment, and to make adjustments to the machines.
Skill in the performance of miscellaneous clerical tasks.
Skill in the use of a light motor vehicle.
Ability to lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

|EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE|
|High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency, and three years of experience in computer operations.|
|Any equivalent combination of education and experience.|
