|Under the direction of a higher level staff employee, performs work in the operation of mainframe computers and the computer-assisted dispatch system utilized by various City-Parish departments. Work involves monitoring and maintenance of these systems, as well as the production of all City-Parish agency batch reports. Employees of this class are required to work shift work. Performs other work as requested.|
|ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS|
|Monitors the mainframe computer and peripheral equipment to ensure proper functioning; reviews all work for errors.
Performs backup function of all disk files to tape.
Runs all batch reports for City-Parish agencies; separates all printed work and attaches to respective job control.
Answers all operator service calls; writes up service calls for vendors.
Maintains tape drives, cassette readers, printers and disk drives by cleaning and performing minor repairs.
Restores data files to usable condition; loads and reloads system firmware.|
|KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES|
|Knowledge of the operation of mainframe computers and peripheral equipment.
Ability to perform routine to moderately complex operations on mainframe computers and peripheral equipment, and to make minor adjustments to the machines.
Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors and subordinates.
Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.|
|EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE|
|High school diploma, GED, or equivalent certificate of competency, supplemented by two years experience in mainframe computer operations.|
|Any equivalent combination of education and experience.|
