|Under the general supervision of the Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance Manager, performs supervisory and skilled automotive work at the municipal service station. Work involves responsibility for overseeing the operation of the municipal service station, the servicing and repair of automotive equipment, the maintenance of necessary records and the supervision of subordinate attendants. Work is reviewed periodically while in progress and through analysis of comments and for results obtained. Performs other work as requested.|
|ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS|
|Plans, organizes and supervises the work of subordinates of the municipal service station in servicing automotive equipment with fuel, oil, water, antifreeze, air, tires and tire repair, cleaning and washing, and proper completion of work orders.
Requisitions and receives all oil, grease and materials for the service station; takes and records fuel pump meter readings; inventories and reports materials consumed; maintains and balances equipment and inventory records; opens work orders, post labor and parts and closes work orders in a computer based fleet maintenance system.
Schedules repairs (oil changes) and participates in service work as necessary; trains subordinates in the same.
Inspects and performs minor repairs to City-Parish automobiles, light to heavy duty trucks, gradalls and any other type of motorized equipment at the service station.
Prepares and maintains all inspection records and certificates as required by law for the underground storage tanks as per the State DEQ and Federal EPA.
Inventories all materials required to operate a service station and tire repair facility, ensures all equipment is in proper working condition.
Inspects and directs the cleaning of the service station.
Orders supplies for service station as needed.
|KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES|
|Knowledge of the principles and practices of servicing, inspecting and maintaining a wide variety of light and heavy automotive equipment.
Knowledge of Louisiana Official Motor Vehicle Inspection Manual.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards involved in the work and the proper safety precautions.
Knowledge of municipal equipment, inventory and requisitions and computerized record systems.
Knowledge of the methods and materials of tire repairs.
Knowledge of tire sizes and compositions.
Skill in the use and care of hand and machine tools employed in automotive repair and adjustment work.
Ability to plan, organize, and supervise the work of a large group of subordinates.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, subordinates and other employees.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to diagnose defects in automotive equipment and to apply approved techniques in remedying defects.
Ability to operate a personal computer.
Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.
|EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE|
|High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency, and four years of experience in the servicing and repair of automotive equipment in an automotive environment.|
|Any equivalent combination of education and experience.|
|Position(s) of this classification may require a valid Louisiana driver's license or a valid Louisiana Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class A, B, or C with appropriate endorsements. If license is required, must be maintained throughout employment in this position.|
