GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the general supervision of an employee of a higher classification, performs semiskilled manual work in the repair and service of all equipment tires at the central garage facility. Work involves routine servicing, repairing and replacing of tires at the central garage facility and in the field. Work is observed through observation of work accomplished. Performs other work as requested.
 
ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Checks tires on equipment for proper pressure levels; services as needed. Replaces inner tubes; repairs tires; replaces tires. Makes road calls to fix flat tires. Operates service truck; replaces tires in the field.
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of City-Parish streets, geography, topography. Knowledge of methods and materials of tire repair. Knowledge of tire sizes and compositions. Skill in the safe operation of tire repair equipment. Skill in the safe operation of a light motor vehicle. Ability to physically perform the work assigned. Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions. Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE
Ability to read and write, and three years experience in a garage servicing light and heavy duty vehicle tires.
 
SUBSTITUTIONS
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES
Position(s) of this classification may require a valid Louisiana driver's license or a valid Louisiana Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class A, B, or C with appropriate endorsements. If license is required, must maintain throughout employment in this position.
